What is the main reason for depression?

The causes of depression have been the subject of significant research over the years. Although it is not uncommon to hear that depression is a consequence of “chemical imbalances”, scientific research has identified many triggers for the disorder. “Faulty mood regulation, genetic vulnerability, stressful life events as well as complex medical problems” can be among the probable causes. An individual may be more prone to mental illness due to personality features like receptivity to stress and low self-esteem, as well as environmental factors including “chronic exposure to neglect, and violent behavior,” among other chaotic environments.
